Pam was relieved by the plea

After Pam went behind Les’ back to speak to the mum of one of the men who murdered Paul, the pair began the day in an argument but they soon put it behind themselves when the Square turned out in force to support them.

“We thought because you’ve both done so much for the community, we’d do something for you,” Claudette told them as the group all donned ‘End Hate Crime’ T-shirts.

“I know I said I wouldn’t try and speak to Simon but I couldn’t get what you said out of my head,” Diane told Pam, Kathy and Ben in the court.

“I’ve told him to plead guilty, whether it’s enough I don’t know, he’s refused to speak to me since. I tried. I’ve tried.”

Ben and Paul were blissfully happy

Pam immediately broke down in relief, with Ben struggling to control his emotions as their hunt for justice came to an end.

Paying tribute to Paul and thanking everyone for their support, Ben told the Walford residents: “I ain’t really one for speeches and I know Pam and Les aren’t here but I wanted to say thank you to everyone for today because sometimes something really bad happens and it’s hard to see the good in the world.

“Then people come together and, you know what, I think that’s the kind of world Paul believed in. We should all try to be like that.”

It was recently revealed that Pam and Les would be leaving the Square for good after new showrunner Sean O’Connor decided to write their characters out.
