What time is The Missing finale on BBC1 tonight, what’s happened so far and what do we know about the last episode?
The second series of the gritty BBC drama has us gripped
CHILLING BBC drama The Missing is coming to a close on BBC One tonight - having captivated telly fans with its gripping child abduction plot once again.
Back in 2014, actor James Nesbitt and co-star Frances O'Connor made the show a success with their portrayal of parental turmoil and the impact of losing their child on their family unit and their community.
The second series has delivered the goods again and kept fans enthralled with the plot twists and turns.
Here is everything you need to know about when to tune in.
When is it next on?
The final episode of The Missing is on tonight at 9pm on BBC One.
Its second series comes fresh from success at a host of industry awards ceremonies where it scooped four BAFTAS and two nominations for the Golden Globes.
How many episodes are left?
The final instalment in the drama, Episode 8 - The Mountain will air on tonight on BBC One.
What's happened so far?
The Webster family seek Julien's help when their daughter, Alice, is discovered in a quiet German town where she was abducted 11 years ago.
Baptiste will juggle his case work centred on Alice with that of another missing girl, French resident Sophie Giroux, who was at the heart of an investigation he was tasked with back in 2003.
There has been a number of fan theories sweeping the nation, read the best here.
A third girl has also been discovered in the case, who Alice's mother (played by Keeley Hawes) is convinced could be her missing daughter.
In episode five we were also reintroduced to army press officer Adam Gettrick, who we have only met briefly before, when he was trying to prevent the media from prying into the Webster's lives.
In the final scene of episode five, the military press officer is outed by a police officer.
A young girl, referring to Gettrick as 'Daddy', enters the scene and makes police officer Lenhart suspicious.
Gettrick wrestles the police officer to the ground, where he meets his gruesome end, murdered by a power drill.
We then learnt that Alice (aka Sophie) is still alive, she has a child and currently is living in Switzerland.
So who died in the fire? The real Alice Webster? Maybe.
However, it is becoming increasingly hard for viewers to trust Julien Baptiste, as he is suffering from a brain tumour, meaning both his memory and actions are becoming hazy.
The penultimate episode went some way to explaining things with a flashback to Iraq in 1991 which explained why Gettrick wanted to frame Nadia's husband for his own crimes.
Gemma and Julien were hot on the trail of Gettrick in Germany only to find the evil, controlling Adam had escaped and with Lucy in the boot of his car and that he is ensconced in Switzerland with Sophie, Lucy and...Alice.
Viewers will need to wait for the final episode to find out if someone is still covering up for Gettrick, if Sam Webster is hiding something and, if Alice and Sophie are still alive, just who was the girl burned in the garden shed?
The writers say:
Writer Harry and Jack Williams said the violent ending of Lenhart justified the means.
Speaking to the , the pair said: "Why a drill?
"To be honest, he's doing things in the house, he's there, he's got stuff knocking around.
"You always want to do something specific with these kind of things.
"You want to do something that's memorable and intentional."
Remind me what happened in the last series
The tale was told over two time frames and two countries - and this scenario will be mirrored in the second series, too.
Parents Tony and Emily were left distraught when Olly, five, was snatched during a holiday in France.
