Eighties pop icons Bros reveal the tragic loss of their mother Carol ended their split as they unveil plans for gig at London’s O2 in their FIRST interview for 27 years
Singers Matt and Luke put aside their differences after mum's battle with cancer and are ready to rock again on tour with their smash hit 'When will I be famous'
EIGHTIES pop icons BROS announced their reunion, nearly three decades since their split.
Twins MATT and LUKE GOSS unveiled plans for a huge show at London’s O2 Arena next August at a press conference in London.
But they saved their first interview together in 27 years for a world exclusive with Bizarre, where they revealed the tragic secret behind their return.
At their peak in the late Eighties, Bros were one of the biggest bands in the world, shifting 16million records including smash hit When Will I Be Famous? and selling out Wembley Stadium.
In 1992 they packed it all in and have lived relatively separate lives since, with Matt, becoming a solo star and Luke, a Hollywood actor.
Now, 24 years on, they have revealed it took the most devastating moment of their lives to bring them back together — the death of mum Carol in 2014.
Matt confessed: “We lost our mother. That took a great toll on both me and my brother.
"That is the day you truly become men.
“What it has done is made us very deeply realise that we are such a family.
"You mess with my brother, you mess with me. We’re proper double trouble.
“It’s a beautiful thing to have each other’s back in the way we do. And that intensity will make its way on stage too.”
Luke added: “We have a very small family so when you lose people you love — sister, our mother, grandfathers who raised us with our mother — you start to put great value on it.
"Family has become a priority now.”
Matt and Luke put aside their differences and rushed to be by their mum’s side in LA as she was losing her battle with cancer two years ago.
Her death nearly sent Matt over the edge. But with Luke’s support he managed to turn his life around.
He said: “There have been times when it’s been dark.

“I had to make a decision when mum passed, I was either going to spiral out of control into nothingness or honour her blood and teaching, which was, ‘Stay strong and keep moving, left foot, right foot, but remember to dance along the way’. That’s exactly what I’ve done.
“Then I’ve come together with my best friend. Luke is my best friend and I trust him with my life.
"Getting on the O2 stage with my best mate, who happens to be my brother, it’s phenomenal.”
Matt admits he and Luke “were definitely not friends for a while” after Bros split, explaining they “needed a break from each other”.
But after so long apart the pair are raring to go again, with the memory of their mum inspiring them.
And they privately paid tribute to her before the press conference to announce their comeback to the world.
Matt, who headlined a solo show at Wembley Arena on Saturday, said: “All I can say about my mum is nothing came before her boys. Nothing.
“So we did do a little prayer before the press conference and acknowledged her.
“I think she’s orchestrating this a little bit. I just played Wembley and it’s an incredible experience but there was definitely one person missing there — I was not with my dearest brother.
“Luke is a comforting force and hopefully I’m a comforting force in his life. We’ve become comforting forces for each other, finally.”
At long last, Bros are back.
Bros bits
BROS split two years after TAKE THAT formed, but they’ve been big fans since GARY BARLOW and the lads reunited in 2006. MATT said: “I’ve spent time with all of them. I was proud they managed to figure it out.”
LUKE has big ambitions for the support act at their comeback show. He said: “I absolutely wouldn’t expect them to open for us but one of my favourite bands alive are the RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS.”
ONE DIRECTION have been huge in recent years and BROS see similarities. Matt said: “They have really loyal fans very similar to the ones we have so I have great respect for what they’re going through.”
Fan faves for now
THE boys are planning their biggest show ever for the O2 Arena next summer – but there is no new music on the horizon.
LUKE said: “We are going to be faithful to people wanting to see a Bros show. Because it’s been so long, I don’t want to populate it with new stuff. It needs to be a moment of coming together.” The boys have already had an impromptu rehearsal in LA.
MATT recalled: “I was having a jam on a guitar in a music shop and Luke started playing drums. It was like, ‘This feels right’.”
Tickets for the O2 Arena show go on sale on Friday at 11am.
Brossettes are back
EMMA WILLIS showed off the BROS scrapbook she made aged 13 while hosting the announcement.
She said: “I was a massive, massive Brossette.”
Craig's out of picture
BROS are keeping their reunion strictly in the family – and won’t be inviting CRAIG LOGAN along.
Original bassist Craig quit the band at their peak in 1989, claiming he never wanted to be famous.
He later sued his former school pals for £1million and they didn’t speak for years.
MATT said: “We had lunch recently. It’s weird, when I’m next to my brother I can’t wait to see him play. I didn’t get that with Craig.”
Craig has forged an incredible music career, managing the likes of PAUL McCARTNEY and GARTH BROOKS.
In 2010 he set up his own firm looking after stars including DIDO and CHER LLOYD.
LUKE added: “If he was still in the band there would be three of us here, but he made a decision to no longer be a part of it.”
I’m sure Craig will be cheering them on at the O2.
Dad's on board
THE boys held another reunion yesterday – with dad Alan.
My exclusive picture shows the trio back together for the first time in three years.
