BBC Breakfast presenter Charlie Stayt has become one of the team's most recognisable stars.

He joined Breakfast as a relief presenter back in 2006 but was confirmed as one of the regular hosts the following year.

Who is Charlie Stayt?

Charles "Charlie" Stayt is a 60-year-old English newsreader and broadcaster.

He was born on June 19, 1962, and grew up with his two siblings in Gloucester.

Stayt was educated at Wycliffe College before going to Birmingham Polytechnic.

He joined BBC Breakfast in 2006, initially as a relief presenter.

Since January 2008, he has also been the weekend presenter for the morning show.

He then moved with the programme to Salford and now presents the programme Thursday-Saturday with Naga Munchetty.

Charlie was also the stand-in presenter for main weekday former host Dan Walker.

Stayt started his career on a commercial radio station in his home town of Gloucester.

He then moved to work on radio in London, hosting Capital Radio's news programme, The Way It Is, and also reporting for LBC and BBC Radio 5 Live.

He started his TV career working for ITN in 1995, then joined Five News as a reporter before presenting the Network's prime-time bulletins and half-hour live debate programmes.

He also worked as a presenter for Sky News and hosted live reality TV shows such as Jailbreak, and Are You Telepathic.
