EastEnders’ Steve McFadden has a surprising idea about how Phil Mitchell will cope with Denise Fox’s surprise baby
Phil will find himself in a tricky position when he discovers he is to be a father again after his forgotten romp with Denise
Phil Mitchell might not have been the best dad to his kids so far, but EastEnders actor Steve McFadden has said that he will be different with his baby with Denise Fox.
The Walford hardman had a drunken tryst with shopkeeper Denise back in April but remembers nothing of the event leaving Denise facing the prospect of having to remind him and break the news that he's going to have another child.
But with Phil recently facing his own mortality and accepting his son Ben being gay and supporting him through the murder of boyfriend Paul, actor Steve insisted the mechanic has turned a corner and will be a good father.
"I think he's got the potential to be good to all the children, in some ways, and occasionally he does get it right," the actor told DigitalSpy.
Phil has son Ben, 19, with ex Kathy Beale, and Louise, 14, with ex Lisa Fowler.
"What I feel about him is that he does the wrong thing but for the right reason," he added to .
"Behind what he does, he's a good-hearted man, so he'll do something terrible, but in his rationale, it makes sense.
"And so, it's never born of maliciousness or some kind of unpleasantness. It's often a mistake that he does something bad.
"He does do it for the right reason. As long as what he thinks is right at that moment for his nearest and dearest."
Viewers have watched as Denise found herself troubled by her pregnancy while trying to decide what to do, even considering adoption but it remains to be seen what she decides.
Earlier this week, McFadden took home the Best Actor prize at the Inside Soap Awards for his portrayal of alcoholic Phil through the his health troubles and the heartbreaking loss of his mum Peggy Mitchell.
Peggy, played by Dame Barbara Windsor, quit the BBC soap earlier this year after playing the Walford matriarch for 22 years.
