Ex-Towie star Amy Child’s slams H&M’s ‘strong women’ ad that includes a model with hairy armpits

High street brand's advert aims to 'redefine the meaning of being ladylike'

AMY Child has said she disapproves of a new H&M TV ad featuring a woman with hairy armpits.

The high street store says it aims to "redefine the meaning of being ladylike" with the unconventional advert, starring what the brand calls a group of "strong women".

These include a plus-size model, a transgender woman, a muscular boxer, a septuagenarian — and a woman who gorges on chips in bed before flaunting her unshaven underarms.

Former Towie star Amy, 26, told magazine: "I'm very ladylike. I'm not always in a dress, but I try to look nice and always wear a bit of make-up.

"There are tomboys out there, but women like me exist too so I think H&M should have broadened the scope a bit more."

Even if I have a little bit of growth on my armpits I'll have them waxed, I'd feel like a gorilla otherwise!

She added: "Some women don't mind excess hair — which is featured in the ad — but I don't approve.

"Even if I have a little bit of growth on my armpits I'll have them waxed, I'd feel like a gorilla otherwise!

"I even use hair removal cream on my arms and have my face threaded sometimes."

Amy was pleased, however, that the ad showed women flaunting their wobbly bits.

She said: "I'm proud to be curvy and feel we need to be represented more on TV instead of all these stick-thin women reinforcing the idea women should have a certain look."

TV presenter Ferne McCann also weighed in, disagreeing with Amy about the ad campaign.

The 26-year-old said: "I applaud H&M; it's incredible to see a fashion brand liberating women.

"I'm all for supporting natural, unadulterated beauty and REAL women — that's what I think is 'ladylike'."
