The actor, who plays the dementia-sufferer, has said that he could be one of the characters killed off over the autumn

Viewers have watched Ashley struggle with his dementia over the past year in heartbreaking scenes with wife Laurel and his family.

He first married her in 2005 but they split up in 2013 after having problems. The pair remarried in 2016.

The ITV soap released a hauntingly-shot trailer teasing a major character's “last dance” - and it seems that person could be Ashley.

Speaking to at the Inside Soap Awards, John revealed: "I could be going next week!"

The actor added that the character's family was going to go through a "period of severe crisis".

Charlotte Bellamy (Laurel) said that while it is "difficult viewing" it is still a "love story": "That's why it's so tragic!"

John admitted: "It's a love story with an inevitable outcome."

He also told more details about the dramatic week, which starts on October 17.

The actor said that they've "filmed it in a completely different way" than they normally do and that it is going to be "hugely successful".

This follows Holly's incredibly tragic overdose last week.

Viewers were in tears after the character was discovered dead in her own bed.

Holly has been battling a drug addiction for months but seemed to be on the up after starting a relationship in secret with Jai Sharma.

However, the mainly light-hearted episode took a dark turn when Holly collapsed after relapsing into her heroin addiction and never woke up.

Fans have since been speculating whether it was Jai or her drug dealer who gave her the drugs.

Some even think she could have been murdered.

Kelvin Fletcher, who played Andy Sugden for 20 years, left the soap in August while Bill Ward, who plays James Barton, has already announced that he will be killed off.

Fellow castmember Danny Miller, who plays Aaron Livesy, has already promised a high death toll before the end of the year.

Considering the fact that Emmerdale bosses like to surprise, it looks like there will also be the shock death of one character no one suspects...
