I flipped my luxury Mercedes in shock crash – the fire brigade had to clear the wreckage, reveals Nick Grimshaw
NICK Grimshaw once flipped a Mercedes G-Wagon so dramatically that not only did the fire brigade have to rescue him, but a famous F1 driver grilled him about it.
Nick, 37, had just moved into a new house when he flipped the £120,000 SUV - blocking school traffic and prompting Lewis Hamilton to scold him for his driving skills.
The TV star revealed because the car was so big, the fire brigade had to come and assess how they would get it up again.
“I did a deal with this car company where they said like, if you DJ for us and like, you do some stuff for us, we'll do some stuff for you," Nick told Angela Hartnett on their weekly podcast, .
The company lent Nick the Mercedes G-Wagon as part of the deal and it didn't take him long to wreak havoc.
"So, I had that and I’d just moved house and I just moved in, and I think my neighbours were already having a cardiac arrest like, ‘Oh God, look who's moved in next door'," he explained.

"And it was in one of my first weeks of me moving in that I managed to flip it on its side. On a residential street. And I mean, on its side, blocking the entire road."
Nick added: "It was so shocking, right, and Lewis Hamilton got in contact to say, ‘How did you that?’”
The SUV was so heavy that no one could lift and the fire brigade was worried the car might explode, but also couldn't lift it.
"One of the fire brigades knew a like car-saving company, so this man came with a huge truck, flicked it upon its side, put it on the back of his lorry. And like, drove it off," Nick said.

"Then Mercedes were like, ‘What the hell happened?’"
Nick described the accident: "It was so tall that car, that when I turned the corner, it was a tight corner and hit a car.
"And rather than just hitting into it, it just like drove up it like a monster truck and then fell on its side.
"But it was so slow that a pedestrian was like, ‘What? How? You were driving so slow, what happened?’"
Getting out of the car was also a struggle, because had a new puppy with him that he had to cradle as he clamoured out of the car.
“They're so big that I could stand up in it and I still wasn't out of it, so I had to climb out of it like I was in an action movie, and I also had a brand-new puppy on my knee," Nick said.
"So, I had to hand the puppy out like that. But it was a good way to meet the neighbours, because everyone came out, you know, I was like, ‘Hi, I'm Nick, I’ve just moved in.’”
Nick added that he was not sure how it happened, "it must have been just like a great physics angle."
To make matters worse when Mercedes tried to get the car back from Nick, nobody knew who the man was that had rescued it.
"They were like, ‘Well, who was the man?’ and I was like, ‘I don't know.’ And they're like, ‘Where are the keys?’ I was like, ‘I gave them to the man'," Nick explained.
"So they were like, ‘Who was the man?’ And I was like, ‘I thought you'd?’
"They couldn't find it for weeks ‘cause a man came and I just gave them the car. Never saw the car again."
While they eventually found the car, Nick "never heard from Mercedes ever again."
"And they used to invite me to like Silverstone. Never again,” Nick added."
