What is Anastacia’s injury on Strictly Come Dancing and why couldn’t she perform in the results show?
MELVIN Odoom and his partner became the first couple to be eliminated from Strictly Come Dancing after Anastacia refused to face him in the dance off.
Last night the radio presenter and Janette Manrara lost their place without being given the opportunity to fight for it after injuries prevented Anastacia from performing.
What is Anastacia's injury?
Anastacia was left with damaged scar tissue after having a double mastectomy for breast cancer in 2013 and unfortunately suffered an injury during rehearsals.
The tear meant that the 48-year-old had to change her routine last minute and she confessed that she was hesitant to dance again.
Admitting to host Tess Daly, Anastacia said: "I'm scared to do it but I will do it. I am scared - that is the honest truth."
Brendan and Anastacia had to completely re-choreograph their salsa to Sax by Fleur East – less than 24 hours before the live show.
Why couldn't she perform in the dance off?
The US star was in the bottom two alongside Melvin but BBC bosses were forced to call off the live competition for the first time ever due to her injures.
As per Strictly’s rules, if one of the two dance-off participants can’t perform, the vote is automatically reverted back to that of the public- meaning Melvin got the boot.
What was the reaction like?
After the decision was revealed to public, Twitter erupted branding the decision "unfair" but fortuntately Melvin understood the BBC's decision.
On hearing he received the lowest number of votes, Melvin said: “Every single person on this show; the contestants, the dancers, the production, the judges, everyone is absolutely amazing.
“It’s a blessing to be on the show and thank you for Janette, it’s been a great experience for me, thank you!”
Speaking of the incident Anastacia said: "I was unable to dance again and I was devastated that I couldn't take part in the dance off.
"I am so very sad to see Melvin and Janette go, they are the most the most wonderful pair and I will miss Melvin's unique spirit and beautiful smile."
