TAKING THE MICHAEL

George Michael’s close pal accuses documentary makers of using film he took of the late star

A CLOSE family pal of George Michael has accused documentary makers of using film he took of the late star.

Andros Georgiou, 59, said he shot scenes on a Sony Hi-8 camera and left tapes with the singer.

Andros — whose family was so close to George’s they called each other cousins — blasted the film Freedom Uncut.

He said: “They are talking about this unseen footage that was found in George’s home.

"Well, it was my footage. I left it with George in his old house in Hampstead. George never carried a video camera.

“I’ve complained to George’s estate over this new documentary, but been ignored.

“I don’t have the money for a legal fight because it would be me against the estate — my bank account against theirs.”

Music producer Andros, who toured the world with George — who died in December 2016 aged 53 — said his footage included scenes of the singer in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

He revealed he is making his own film — called George and I — based on dozens of hours of unseen footage he has of tours, studio work and holidays with his pal.

Andros also blasted a new biography which suggests that George may have committed suicide and claims he died a “pathetic, lonely and broken figure”.

Author James Gavin claims he spoke to 200 people who knew the star for the book George Michael: A Life — and also says the singer could have died of an overdose.

Andros said: “There were a maximum of ten people George was close to. So I’d love to know who these 200 are.
