Their Sixty tour, featuring 14 shows in ten European countries, is due at Hyde Park, London, on June 25.

Last night Sir Mick wrote to fans: “I’m so sorry that we’ve had to postpone the show with such short notice tonight.

"I have unfortunately just tested positive for Covid. We aim to reschedule the date ASAP and get back as soon as we can.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding, Mick.”

Earlier, a statement on behalf of the band said: “The Rolling Stones are deeply sorry for tonight’s postponement, but the safety of the audience, fellow musicians and the touring crew has to take priority.”

It said tickets would be honoured for the rescheduled date. Sir Mick is touring with bandmates Keith Richards, 78, Ronnie Wood, 75, and Steve Jordan, 65.

The Stones made their return to the UK stage at Liverpool FC’s Anfield stadium on Thursday.

Only those who can provide proof are fully vaccinated, generally with a third booster dose, are allowed to enter the Netherlands.
