When is the Doctor Who Christmas special 2016 and will there be a companion?
One thing is for sure, he won't be alone...
THE festive season will soon be upon us and with it comes the Christmas instalment of Doctor Who.
This year there are many questions surrounding the annual spectacular, namely who the companion will be since actress Jenna Coleman bowed out of her role as assistant Clara Oswald in series 9.
When will the Doctor Who Christmas special 2016 air?
As dependable as the Queen’s Speech, this year’s Doctor Who Christmas special will of course air on Christmas Day on BBC One at 5.45pm.
However, following a long tradition of teasers, an exclusive sneak peak was aired during Children In Need on 18th November.
Will there be a companion?
No, there will not be a companion when Peter Capaldi returns as the twelfth Doctor.
However, Matt Lucas is set to reprise his role as Nardole, River Song’s former assistant who was previously seen with his head atop the body of a robot in last year’s festive adventure The Husbands of River Song.
He is expected to fill the “companion space”.
The character will also be seen in the upcoming tenth series of Doctor Who, where the new assistant played by Pearl Mackie will be officially introduced.
Who else will be in it?
The bonus teaser episode on 18th November saw the Doctor and Nardole team up with a journalist played by Charity Wakefield and Canadian actor Justin Chatwin will play “a brash figure with an American accent”.
They also tease that the character is likely to have “a few dark interstellar secrets”.
