Disney confirm they’re bringing The Lion King back with a live-action remake
Jon Favreau will direct the "reimagining" of the classic
DISNEY have confirmed that they're bringing back The Lion King with yet another live action remake.
The "reimagining" of the classic animation will feature tracks from the original film and is on the "fast track" to production.
The studio have brought Jon Favreau on board to direct the film following his work on this year's The Jungle Book.
After he managed to rake in a $965million worldwide gross for them with the film, it's no surprise that they've also hired him to direct its sequel too.
The Iron Man star almost gave the game away with a tweet that hinted his latest job with some carefully selected emojis and read, "Excited for my next project".
It was quickly deleted then reposted, before Disney made the official announcement.
In their statement, they revealed, "We can officially confirm that The Walt Disney Studios and director Jon Favreau are putting a new reimagining of The Lion King on the fast track to production.
"The Lion King builds on Disney’s success of reimagining its classics for a contemporary audience with films like Maleficent, Cinderella, and The Jungle Book.
"The upcoming Beauty and the Beast, starring Emma Watson as Belle, is already one of the most anticipated movies of 2017.
"Like Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King will include songs from the animated film."
The release dates for both The Lion King remake and The Jungle Book sequel are yet to be announced.
