Taking his seat, Marilyn turned to the journalist and said: "You were my first TV interview - and you were vile!"

A shocked Janet responded: "I was frightened of you, you had such an attitude."

"No, I was frightened of you," the 53-year-old hit back.

But he went on: "Now I know that she was nervous, it makes sense.

"Because you were asking me questions, I would go to answer them and then you’d ask another one, and another one – I just thought, why am I here?"

Not taking his comments lying down, Janet, 69, quipped: "That's what an interview is called."

"No, that's called a monologue," said Marilyn.

And after over 20 years, the pair seemed happy to put the incident in the past, with Janet adding: "This is like counselling!"

The pair claimed they were both 'frightened'
