POLICE have launched an investigation into racist comments made by sacked Coronation Street star Marc Anwar.
The soap actor was fired from the ITV soap for his abusive remarks towards Indians.
A spokesperson told the Sun Online: "On Sunday 25 September 2016 police received a report of a hate crime.
"Police have launched an investigation and enquiries are ongoing.
"Hate incidents will not be tolerated in Greater Manchester and should be reported to police on 101 or using the True Vision website or the independent charity Crimestoppers, anonymously on 0800 555 111."
Marc has since apologised for the racist rant which resulted in him losing his job.
The Pakistan-born actor – who plays Sharif Nazir on the soap – uploaded a video on his YouTube page, claiming his racist abuse towards Indians had been ‘misconstrued’ and was a 'moment of madness'.
He said: "I would like to offer my sincerest apologies to anyone that I may have offended with my tweets on Friday evening and especially people from India.
"This was never my intention and the language was unacceptable, I feel that I have let a lot of people down, my family my friends and my former colleagues."
He continued: "On Friday I saw on the news people being pelted with pellets, women mourning their dead in Kashmir, this upset me very deeply and in a moment of madness I ranted out and vented my anger.
"Again the language that I used, I sincerely apologise for but my feelings were very sincere for the people of Kashmir. I hope everyone can find it in their hearts to forgive me."
Over the weekend it was revealed that the actor had been sacked after describing Indians as “b******s” and “p**s-drinking c***s” in a series of bigoted tweets.
ITV said in a statement: “We are deeply shocked by the entirely unacceptable, racially offensive comments made on Twitter by Marc Anwar.

“We have talked to Marc and, as a consequence of his comments, he will not be returning to Coronation Street with immediate effect.”
His remarks came days after 17 soldiers were killed at an army base in Kashmir and sparked a UN clash between India and Pakistan.
He tweeted: “Why the F***k do #pakistaniartists want work in #f*** face #india, do you love money so much.”
Next tweeting an image of a clenched fist, he added: “Ban #india movies in #PakistanisLeaveIndia. B*****ds p**s drinking #c**ts.
“F***ing #indians killing our #Kashmir brothers and sisters, beygairth #NawazSharif still sucking #modi Lul!”
A further entry saw him call on Pakistanis to leave India.
The actor has since deleted his Twitter account.
