THE Sweeney actor Dennis Waterman has died aged 74, his family have announced.
Dennis had a career spanning over 60 years and appeared in many iconic British shows.
Who was Dennis Waterman?
Dennis was born in Clapham, South London, on February 24, 1948.
He appeared in shows such as New Tricks, Minder and The Sweeney as a tough guy archetype.
He began acting at a young age, landing first film credit in 1960 at the age of 12 in Night Train To Inverness.
He married four times, most famously to third wife Rula Lenska from 1987–1998.

This followed his marriages to actresses Penny Dixon from 1967–1976 and Patricia Maynard from 1977–1987.
Patricia and Dennis had two children, daughters Hannah and Julia.
Hannah is also an actress and starred as Laura Beale in EastEnders.
Dennis died at his home on Sunday, May 8, 2022, with his fourth wife Pam Flint at his side.

His family said: "We are deeply saddened to announce that our beloved Dennis, passed away very peacefully at his home in Spain.
"The family kindly ask that our privacy is respected at this very difficult time."

He played Det Sgt George Carter in The Sweeney with the popular TV series being made into two films.
Dennis even sang the theme tunes for Minder and New Tricks, as well as releasing three studio albums and 12 singles.
In Minder he starred as Terry McCann alongside George Cole, and he played Gerry Standing in New Tricks with Amanda Redman.
Beyond his tough-guy roles that made him a household name in the UK, he appeared in many TV shows and 29 films.
He famously starred in comedies On The Up and Stay Lucky in the nineties.
Other TV credits include Moses Jones (2009), The Knock (1997 - 1999), The Barnstormers (1964), and Fair Exchange (1962 - 1963)
