DATE night looked to be particularly glum for Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux who were spotted together for the first time since news of her ex husband Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie’s divorce became public.
The couple seemed serious as they stepped out of a trendy restaurant in New York City with the blonde actress shielding her face with her hands.
Friends star Jennifer has been in the spotlight ever since The Sun exclusively revealed the news of Brangelina’s break up earlier this week.
She was forced to deny claims her marriage to Justin was on the rocks following the news that shocked the celebrity world and the pair showed solidarity heading out for dinner at the Smile eatery.
Justin played the role of perfect gentleman, holding his wife as they headed up the stairs and out into the night.
He then strode ahead to lead the way as she followed close behind.
The film maker looked intent on making sure they made their exit free from any disruption from waiting photographers.
Later, he placed an arm protectively around her back as she went one step further to try to hide her identity, covering her face with a chunky black scarf.
Both had dressed down for date night in matching black outfits.
Sitcom favourite Jen showed off her athletic figure in a simple black vest with skintight trousers.
She left her iconic blonde hairstyle straight and brushed her fringe away from her face as they rounded off their dinner date.
Earlier in the week, she remained silent as photographers asked her how she felt about Brad divorcing the woman he got together with after they split in 2005.
Yet she did have a cheeky smirk on her face and her huge sparkly wedding ring clearly on display for the awaiting cameras.
While Jen may have chosen not to comment on the furore surrounding Brad and Angelina’s divorce, her best friend Chelsea Handler, certainly had a lot to say on the matter, and branded Angelina a “f***ing lunatic.”
Speaking on her Netflix show on Wednesday, the US comedienne didn’t hold back when she revealed her feelings on the marriage breakdown.
“Brad and Angelina always said they wouldn’t get married until everyone could get married and I always said I wouldn’t get married until they got divorce,” joked Chelsea.
“There are rumours that part of the problems were that Brad was allegedly drinking and smoking too much weed… I wonder why he needed to self-medicate? Maybe because he could’ve been at Lake Como hanging out with George Clooney and Matt Damon, instead of being stuck in a house with 85 kids, speaking 15 different languages… Oh yeah because he married a f***ing lunatic, that’s why.”
She was married to Brad for five years before they divorced in 2005.
