Peter Andre breaks down in tears after Dwight Yorke brands him ‘disrespectful’ over Harvey adoption plans in old clip

PETER Andre broke down in tears and cut a live TV interview short after watching a clip of Dwight Yorke slamming his plans to adopt son Harvey.

In a resurfaced clip from the 2010 interview, Peter becomes overwhelmed speaking about his children with ex Katie Price in a segment that attracted 881 complaints to Ofcom.

Pete appeared on Kay Burley's Sky News program where she played him a clip of former footballer, Dwight Yorke, labelling the singer “disrespectful” for wanting to adopt his son Harvey while married to the child's mother, Katie Price.

Kay played the clip after first probing Pete on his thought of Katie's recent quickie wedding to Alex Reid in Las Vegas after only seven months of dating.

Pete revealed he had not yet spoked to his kids about the surprise wedding, but slammed Dwight's comments.

“To me, a nice little thank you would be nice. I asked to adopt him because I love him. I didn’t ask to adopt him to be disrespectful,” Pete started, after questioning if Dwight had even seen Harvey since his controversial comments.

“It angers me when people turn around and I get a comment like that.”

But things really took a turn when Kay wondered how Pete would react if he Alex tried to adopt his kids from his marriage to Katie – Junior and Princess.

“No-one is going to take my kids away from me – nobody. Nobody is going to take my kids away from me and I will fight to the death for that,” he declared, before trying to compose himself.

“I didn’t expect that, I’m sorry. I will die for those children."

Before apologising, Kay pointed out that Pete had been informed he'd watch a clip of Dwight and be asked about his own kids.

"We didn't mean to upset you. Tell me about the tour," Kay said trying to change the subject.

But it was all too much for an emotional Pete who cut the interview short.

“I’d rather just stop this if that’s all right?” Pete told her.

Kay later revealed Pete "sobbed on my shoulder" after the interview.

"Peter Andre broke down on my show and when I went to check during an ad break that he was OK, he sobbed on my shoulder in the Green Room," Kay wrote on her blog.

"He'd discovered not 12 hours earlier that the mother of two of his children had married without even bothering to tell him and was devastated at the very thought that she might want take the youngsters away from him."

Media regulator Ofcom received 881 complaints about the interview, with many accusing the journalist of bullying Pete, but her and Sky News were cleared of any wrong doing.

Ofcom said at the time: "Further, it was understandable that the presenter focused on the human interest angle of the wedding by asking Peter Andre for his reaction, and how it would impact on their children.

"In Ofcom's view, the audience could therefore reasonably have expected the presenter to ask him about the wedding, and the implications of it, given that the interview was taking place on a rolling news programme on the same day that the wedding featured as a major news item."

In his first public statement after the interview, Pete admitted "I can't believe anyone would intentionally try to hurt me like that".

" I saw the bit about them mentioning the marriage [of Reid and Price] and I said you know - ha ha - it doesn't bother me, but of course there's some sort of shock in your system," he during a media event promoting his show, Peter Andre: The Next Chapter.

"I just flipped. Something switched in my head. She threw in a question that I never would have expected which was what if my kids were taken away from me. and of course that just tore me apart."

Katie and Peter married in 2005 after meeting on I'm A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and divorced in 2009.

She remained married to Alex until 2012, and would later marry stripper Kris Boyson – with whom she has two children – in 2013 before divorcing in 2020.

Katie is currently engaged to former Love Island star Carl Woods.

After divorcing Katie, Pete married doctor Emily MacDonagh in 2015 and are parents to Amelia, eight, and Theo, five.
