EASTENDERS got topical tonight when characters were seen using the brand new five pound notes, however viewers were left outraged when Honey told Babe her fiver “didn’t look right” and asked if it was Scottish.
Despite the BBC1 soap being shot weeks in advance, fans were amused that the characters had already gotten their hands on the brand new fivers – which only came out last week, however they weren’t happy with them being treated as suspicious and Scottish.
After Honey remarked, “This don’t look right Babe, is it Scottish”, and Linda added, “it looks like toy money to me”, viewers took to Twitter to unleash their anger.
One person declared, “I can feel the national outrage as Honey on Eastenders asks if a dodgy note is 'Scottish or something'”, while another couldn’t believe what he had seen, commenting, “'This doesn't look right, is it Scottish or something'? Seriously? #Eastenders”
Another called the soap a “sham” saying: “Eastenders deciding that Scottish currency is dodgy haha what a sham of a programme”, and another fan’s eye roll was more than clear, “Trust eastenders to say "is it Scottish money" @bbceastenders”
Others however were amused that EastEnders was attempting at becoming topical, with one tweeter posting: “Bin collection issues. New £5 notes. What next Brangelina divorce? #eastenders being topicalish”
