BLAME THE WEATHER: Game of Thrones series seven is DELAYED as it’s too warm to film winter scenes
Producers were forced to push back the seventh series because it’s not cold enough
FANS were left beside themselves when producers admitted Game of Thrones would return a few months later than planned – and it’s all because of the weather.
Producers of the award-winning HBO show pushed the premiere broadcast date back to the summer instead of previous series which have debuted in the spring.
And the reason for the delay is because the weather is too warm to film winter scenes.
Showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss said: “We don't have an air date yet, but this year will probably be a little bit later.
“We're starting a bit later because at the end of this season, 'Winter is here' - and that means that sunny weather doesn't really serve our purposes any more.
"So we kind of pushed everything down the line, so we could get some grim grey weather even in the sunnier places that we shoot."
The next series, series seven, will feature just seven episodes instead of the usual ten.
Bridget Jones star Jim Broadbent has signed up to play a “significant” character in the upcoming series and Dame Angela Lansbury is believed to be in talks for a cameo role.
It was also be the penultimate series after HBO’s Casey Bloys confirmed that series eight would be the very last.
Speaking at the Television Critics Association’s press tour in Beverly Hills back in July, he was asked if he intended to go with showrunners’ David Benioff and Dan Weiss’ desire to end the award-winning drama after the eighth season.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, he said: “Yes, they have a very specific plan about the number of seasons they want to do.”
Bloys also commented on the possibility of a spin-off show and said: “We’ve talked about it. It’s not something I’m opposed to but it has to make sense creatively. I’m not sure the guys can wrap their heads around it when they are about to start production.
“We’re open to it; the guys aren’t opposed to it but there’s no concrete plans right now.”
On Sunday night, the cast and crew gathered in Los Angeles where they saw the show make history at the annual Emmy Awards.
It took home 12 gongs – including Outstanding Drama Series – bringing its total Emmys tally to 38 – the most of any fictional TV series.
