I can see why fans think Peaky Blinders final season is boring – but I don’t agree, says Duke Shelby star
PEAKY Blinders star Conrad Khan has admitted he can see why fans of the show have been bored with the final season - but says he doesn't agree with them.
The actor, who plays Tommy Shelby's [Cillian Murphy] son Duke in the BBC drama, defended the writers' decision to focus on Tommy's mental state rather than the explosive brawls and gun battles of previous series.
Speaking to , he said: "I mean, episode five was quite exciting. The garrotting scene in the bath… that was one of the most violent scenes I've seen, certainly in the series.
"But I study film. I study it at uni. I've done it for a year-and-a-half. And some of the films we have to watch are a little bit boring. They're two-and-a-half-hour, black-and-white, silent, 1920s, very abstract…
"So I don't mind going into somebody's… internal, emotional state for an hour. But I guess the show is built on action and excitement. So I can see why some people might think that. But for me, I don't mind it, actually."
Over six series gang leader Tommy has grappled with his deteriorating psyche as the stresses of balancing a criminal organisation and an increasingly public profile have ratcheted up.

So far in season six Tommy has been told by doctors that he's seriously ill and doesn't have too much time left and has become embroiled in a love triangle with fascist politician Oswald Mosley and his wife Diana.
There has been criticism that fan favourite characters have been underused and a number of plots points left as loose ends ahead of the final.
However, with a first Peaky film in the works, it's likely Tommy will live to fight another day.
