This Morning viewers fall in love with ‘sweet’ son of 80-year-old internet sensation
Alzheimer's sufferer Teddy Mac now has a record deal after son Simon posted videos of the pair singing in the car together
THIS Morning viewers fell utterly in love with the son who helped his 80-year-old father with his dementia by using music.
The pair became an internet sensation after Simon McDermott, 40, posted videos of himself and his father Teddy singing together in the car online.
Simon joined Holly and Phil in the car as they spoke about the pair's videos going viral.
The 40-year-old said: "Yeah, it is amazing. I can't believe this is actually happening, really. I mean, just going to the shops one day and this has happened."
His dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's back in 2013, but showed symptoms from around 2011 and he said that it's been "tough days".
He said that his mum, of course, found it difficult but that he is the "strongest person" he knows.
Simon added: "My dad, sometimes he's there, sometimes he isn't, you know... she's the one that's keeping us all together really."
Despite his father's dementia, he is able to remember the lyrics of songs as soon as the music begins to play: "Yeah, as soon as you play the music, the show man's out."
In Teddy's younger days he was Butlins Redcoat, and his love of music has evidently continued to stick with him.
Simon revealed: "He did a few shows around the country, around the Midlands, and in the 70s he became a Butlins Redcoat, and that's how he met my mum in Blackpool... my dad's an entertainer."
He added: "When we get him singing he's back to being a showman."
They have raised £114,000 for charity and have also got Teddy a record deal.
Simon said: "This is amazing. Just to think that he's got a record deal and he's singing and he's excited about it... he knows something's going on and it's my dad and this is his big dream. The only tragedy is that he can't experience it fully."
They are releasing his dad's single 'You Make Me Feel So Young' on Friday.
And This Morning viewers were utterly charmed by the story and Simon.
One wrote: "what a fab guy and how sweet is his son!"
Another commented: "What a lovely idea to record his Dads singing".
A viewer wrote: "I want to marry him. What a god."
While another said: "wow! This man sure loves his dad. Bonus for us viewers...He is a hottie x"
Others couldn't help but feel emotional about the story.
A Twitter user commented: "I am on the point of tears with this story about the father and son dementia story. Such a cruel disease."
