WILL Smith and Chris Rock's tense relationship goes back more than 20 years and this year's Oscars wasn't the first time he's joked about Jada Pinkett Smith.

Actors Will, 53, and Chris, 57, first appeared on screen together in 1995 when the latter made a cameo in The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

Chris and Will's wife Jada have also worked on three Madagascar films together over the past decade - but that didn't stop him from making a dig at her during the 2016 Academy Awards.

That year Jada, 50, boycotted the ceremony due to lack of diversity, which led to Chris saying: "Jada says she's not coming. Protesting. I'm like, 'Ain't she on a TV show?'

"Jada boycotting the Oscars is like me boycotting Rihanna's panties. I wasn't invited!"

He also poked fun at Will, saying: "Jada’s mad her man Will was not nominated for Concussion. I get it.

"It’s also not fair that Will was paid $20 million for Wild Wild West.”

Chris once again risked the wrath of Will by talking about Jada in 2018.

Commenting on Will's social media birthday post to his ex-wife Sheree Zampino, he said: "Wow…You have a very understanding wife."

But it seems that Chris went one step too far this time when he made a joke about Jada shaving her hair after suffering with alopecia.

"Jada, I love you, G. I. Jane 2, can't wait to see it," Chris tried to joke.

Demi Moore famously shaved her head for her role in the 1997 movie.

Jada, on the contrary, has been struggling with hair loss for years, and last year decided to shave it all off.

Will took offense at the joke and stormed the stage before slapping Chris.

After the confrontation, a stunned Chris said: "Will Smith just smacked the s**t out of me."

When the video restarted, Will looked furious, as he yelled at the comedian: "Leave my wife’s name out of your f***ing mouth."

During his acceptance speech after winning Best Actor for his role as Richard Williams in King Richard, Will broke down and said: "Love will make you do crazy things."

He added: "I want to apologise to the Academy, I want to apologise to my fellow nominees... This is a beautiful moment, and I'm not crying for winning an award."
