VERNON Kay had to apologise to BBC Radio 2 listeners this morning after he name-dropped paedophile Jimmy Savile in a slip-up live on air.
The presenter laughed off the massive blunder made during an interview with singer Marc Almond, 64.
Reading out a message from someone who had texted into the show, Vernon said: "Morning Vernon, love Marc Almond. Awesome voice and so unique. His music has helped me through some dark days.
"I saw him at Pride and I think I was the first one at Hyde Park to run down and wait for him at the front. His duet with Jimmy Savile - erm Jimmy Sommerville, apologies - just blew me away. Absolutely awesome."
Stunned Marc could be heard laughing in the background as Vernon said sorry to listeners.
He said: "That's a clip that we don't want to ever hear again. Apologies, apologies.

His mistake didn't go unnoticed by those listening in this morning as Vernon stood in for Covid-hit Zoe Ball.

Another posted: “Live on Radio 2 Vernon Kay just told Marc Almond that his duet with Jimmy Savile was iconic!! Ooops."
Savile was exposed as a paedophile in 2012 and was later branded one of the UK's most prolific known sexual predators.
He is believed to have abused as many as 1,000 victims during his horrifying campaign.
