As our pictures show, the cast have been busy filming the new series in Doncaster today.

Stephanie Cole and Nina Wadia also return to the show, which will run over the festive period.

The pictures show that the new series will be full of the usual slapstick viewers have come to enjoy.

At one point they were shooting a scene with David chasing a giant furry mouse coming down from the sky.

Always the dedicated actor, David was snapped taking a break from filming to go over his lines.

The show was re-booted back in 2013 after a 30 year break.

The show was a massive hit in the 70s and 80s and saw the late Ronnie Barker take on the lead role, will David playing his shop assistant Granville.

In the new series, he still plays the hapless Granville, but he now runs the shop.

David told the Radio Times he is looking forward to fans watching the new series : “I can’t wait for viewers to see the scrapes Granville gets into this series, almost as much as I can’t wait to start filming them.

"Roy Clarke has once again written seven fantastically warm, funny and inventive scripts, full of the humour and eccentric characters that the nation has come to love over the years."

Executive producer Gareth Edwards said: "I continue to be bowled over by the incredible audience response to Still Open All Hours, so it’s a real pleasure to welcome the series back to BBC1.

“The opening Christmas special is our most festive yet, and the wonderful mind of Roy Clarke has conjured up many more eccentric, classic adventures for Granville and the gang over the series."
