Nurse Kate Barmby becomes the fourth person to be booted of The Great British Bake Off
But Benjamina Ebuehi was awarded Star Baker for her tropical churros
THE Great British Bake Off lost its fourth contestant tonight as Kate Barmby was voted out of the show.
The nurse failed to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry throughout the challenges but it was her rabbit-shaped churros, which Paul said looked "flat, like they've been run over", which confirmed her imminent departure.
Speaking after her exit, she said: "I don't think I've completely humiliated myself. There's been some fantastic bakes in amongst some of the shocking ones ... I had a shocking week ...
"I'm not going to cry because it's over because I'm going to get to watch and see who finishes this journey."
Hollywood added: "Is she the worst baker in the group? No she isn't. But this weekend, she was. That's how 'Bake Off' works."
But while Kate said farewell, one person staying on for another week is Benjamina Ebuehi, who was crowned Star Baker after she wowed with her tropical churros.
As she presented her plate to the judges, Mary told her they were a “pleasant colour” while Paul agreed and added that he thought they were “beautiful, absolutely beautiful”.
She said: "I've conquered the batter. Star baker. I'm really, really happy."
Mary was particularly impressed with her churros, adding: "Oh, was I thrilled to see Benjamina's churros. Sheer joy! She did brilliantly."
For the technical challenge during this week's show, the contestants were asked to make beautifully intricate heart-shaped pancakes. Whilst for the showstopper round, they were tasked with making 36 churros.
Speaking before the challenge commenced, Mary said: "I want them to think outside of the box and do something quite different."
Tonight’s show was the first one aired since the announcement it will be moving to Channel 4 and fans shared their sadness on Twitter tonight as they tuned in.
As hosts Mel and Sue cracked jokes, viewers took to Twitter to moan it won’t be the same without the comedy duo, who yesterday quit the show.
