The Rolling Stones to announce 60th-anniversary tour – with first gig at Anfield
THE ROLLING STONES will this month announce a European tour to mark their 60th anniversary – including a gig at Liverpool.
The legendary rockers — Mick Jagger, Keith Richards and Ronnie Wood — will unveil their plans for the milestone gigs on March 14.
Sources say the first UK date of the tour — which begins in June — will be at Liverpool’s Anfield stadium, as the band return to the city for the first time in five decades.
The performance, with fans cheering from the stadium’s Kop end, will be the hitmakers’ first concert in Liverpool since they played the Empire Theatre in 1971.
A source said: “The last time the Stones were in Liverpool, they played to a small crowd of a few thousand people at the Empire.
“But Anfield has a capacity of 53,000 people. It will be a huge moment for them and their fans.
“This tour has been in the planning stages for a long time, and those plans are now on the brink of being finalised. It is a very exciting time. The tickets, when released, are going to be like gold dust.”
The Anfield concert will see the Stones join the list of just a handful of megastars to have played the Reds’ iconic football stadium.
Less than 20 concerts have taken place at the open air venue, which has seen performances by Paul Mccartney, Take That, Bon Jovi and Pink.
Elton John's final tour is scheduled to take place there this year.
The source went on: “60 years at the top of their game is an incredible achievement, and this tour will be one to remember. It will be followed by a new album.
“Mick and Keith have recently been in Jamaica writing songs that they are now recording. So there is a lot to look forward to from the Stones in the months to come.”
Last year saw Mick and Keith mark the 60th anniversary of their first meeting — on 17 October 1961 — with an Instagram caption reading: “60 years on the same train.”
Their first performance as a band — at London’s Marquee Jazz Club — was on July 12, 1962.
At the time the band were Mick, Keith, guitarist Brian Jones, pianist Ian Stewart, bassist Dick Taylor and drummer Mick Avory. The line-up saw Charlie Watts taking over as drummer the following January. Credited as the band’s “irreplaceable heartbeat”, he passed away last August.
The source added: “Charlie will not be far from anyone’s thoughts as the Stones mark this milestone.”
Following their Anfield gig, the Stones will play two gigs at London’s Hyde Park as part of British Summer Time festival.
Steve Jordanwill play the drums for the Stones during the tour.
Natalie 'so sad' at soap axe
NATALIE IMBRUGLIA has told of her sorrow at the demise of Neighbours, the show that made her famous.
The singer played Beth Brennan in the Aussie soap from 1992 to 1994, before its shock axing was confirmed this week.
Speaking at the NME Awards she said: “It’s just so sad – I loved that show.”
Natalie has just won ITV’s The Masked Singer as Panda and is now planning to put out more music.
She said: “I should have done it years ago. I am so popular now, it’s brilliant.
“The costumes are treated better than the stars on the show. They keep it pristine for the live tour.
It Moss be love for Sam
ALL eyes were on Lottie Moss at Wednesday’s NME Awards, including those of a certain rocker du jour.
We hear that Sam Fender, who picked up a gong for Best Album In The World, was quite taken with the model, who has just finished a stint in rehab for cocaine addiction, and he has been busy ogling her sexy snaps on Instagram.
The Geordie crooner, who we revealed last month had been on a string of dates with singer Raye, as well as spending all night chatting to pop star Sigrid, has “liked” a string of stunning Lottie’s saucy photos, including a sultry underwear shot.
Meanwhile Lottie, who recently dated Vamps star Tristan Evans and tattooed rapper Milkavelli, has been busy ranting about another ex on Twitter.
She wrote: “Wow, this guy I dated was rude, lazy and an a*e – like pick your battles. Like why do I have the WORST taste in men.”
We wonder who she’s referring to.
Disclosure's Brixton show leaves everyone raving
DISCLOSURE’S long-awaited return to the capital went off with a bang on Friday with a spectacular performance that had everyone raving.
The Brixton show started with a voiceover lamenting the last few years of empty clubs as the word Love splashed across a giant screen, then brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence announced: “We’re back!”
A blinding light filled the venue as the unmistakable opening bars of White Noise began to play.
Sensing the crowd’s adoration for Settle, their debut studio album, the dance duo followed that up with the soulful F for You.
The duo’s set showcased their unique blend of garage production aesthetics and melodic hooks.
Not content with closing the show with hugely popular single Latch, a brass section was brought on stage for their final song of the night, 2020 release Tondo, which samples Eko Roosevelt and Boz Scaggs.
It was a fittingly upbeat end to a performance that had the entire crowd dancing and counting down the days until Disclosure’s headline set at London’s All Points East festival in August.
Stage set for Katy
KATY PERRY has revealed secret plans to pen a Broadway musical.
Speaking about her ambitions this week, the star said how she is in awe of the stamina of musical actors.
She told Broadway World: “I have so much respect for people that do those eight shows a week.
“Would I write and create a show? Most definitely. Will I star in it? Oh, I don’t know. But if it’s coming from my brain, it will definitely be interesting.”
Romance one: Charli's smitten by George
CHARLI XCX has grown close to The 1975 star George Daniel after splitting from her long-term boyfriend at the end of last year.
Charli – who was in an on/off relationship with Huck Kwong for seven years – ended her relationship with the video game producer recently.
And she was spotted out this week on a date with musician George in New York.
An onlooker said: “Charli and George were walking arm in arm and they looked very much like a couple. They are clearly close.”
Charli revealed in May 2020 that she and Huck had been on the brink of splitting before lockdown kicked in because they barely saw each other.
But she said they were able to rebuild their relationship while quarantining together.
She told Zane Lowe during an interview: “You know, we were, I’m not going to say like at the end of the road but close to it.”
Unfortunately the pair went their separate ways last year.
Hopefully George will help put a smile back on Charli’s face.
Romance two: Tasmin & Josh wed
HIS latest turn, in new drama The Fear Index, is being lauded as some of Josh Hartnett's best work – but the Hollywood hunk has another reason to celebrate.
The Pearl Harbour heart-throb has wed his long-term partner, St Trinian’s actress Tamsin Egerton, in a secret ceremony in London at celeb fave The Old Marylebone Town Hall.
We can reveal they tied the knot last November, on Guy Fawkes Night, in the Soho Room which seats just 12.
They became an item ten years ago after meeting on the set of straight-to-DVD flop The Lovers, later renamed Time Traveller.
A pal said of the pair, who now live in Dorset: “They’re as loved up as ever and wanted to make it official in a low-key affair, with their close family and friends.”
Speaking previously about marriage, Tamsin said: “It is going to happen, but we’re focusing on children at the moment. The kids are very young.
"It’s hard when Josh goes away to work. We miss him but we make it work.”
TV Zara's engaged
SHE has had her fair share of drama in recent years, but Love Island babe Zara Holland can finally enjoy the moment.
We can reveal the reality star secretly got ENGAGED in January to her long-term boyfriend, the aptly named, Elliott Love, when he popped the question in Dubai.
She held a glitzy engagement bash last month with family and pals.
A friend said: “Zara is over the moon. They are smitten with each other and already planning a stunning wedding.
