'THEY'VE KILLED IT'

Phillip Schofield weighs in on The Great British Bake Off drama after Mel and Sue quit the show

The future of the GBBO was left in doubt this week after the shock news that it's leaving the BBC

This Morning

IT'S the most controversial national event since Brexit and now Phillip Schofield has weighed in on The Great British Bake Off drama.

Fans of the reality show were left reeling yesterday when presenters Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc quit after producers moved the show from the BBC to Channel 4.

When discussing the drama on This Morning, Phil didn't hold back and said: "I think they've killed it and I absolutely love Bake Off but it's just not going to be the same."

Holly was shocked at his honesty and exclaimed: "Oh just put it out there then!"

The veteran presenter then decided to give his two cents about why the BBC couldn't hold onto the popular show.

He continued: "See the BBC are stuck because if they spent the fortune that was obviously required, then everyone would say 'you're wasting our license fee money!'

"So I think their hands are a little bit tied on this one."

However, Phil didn't waste TOO much time grieving over the BBC's loss of the GBBO as he quickly realised that the move could benefit him as his show, All Star Mr & Mrs goes head to head with the Bake Off.

As he realised he wouldn't have to battle it out against the baking monolith in the ratings any more, he exclaimed: "Actually it's good for me!

"It's suddenly dawned on me, yeah get shot! Stick it on Dave!"

Earlier in the show, Phil and Holly played a cruel trick on viewers by teasing that they were set to announce who is going to take over from Mel and Sue.

However, after all the build up, the duo merely announced they wouldn't be leaving their day jobs on This Morning to front the cooking show.

Phil teased: "I have to say we are in the mix at 100/1 but we can officially announce today that....it's not going to be us.

"We're not going anywhere. I can't bake for my life and I don't want to look like THAT," he added, referencing a mocked up image of their heads of Mel and Sue's bodies.

Alright Phil, nothing wrong with a bright pink shirt.
