Who was Lesley Stahl's husband, Aaron Latham?

Aaron Latham was born on October 3, 1943, in Spur, Texas.

He was best known as a journalist, author, and screenwriter.

Latham graduated from Amherst College in 1966 where he studied literature. He also worked as an editor for the school's newspaper.

After college, Latham wrote for several publications, contributing articles to The Washington Post, Rolling Stone, The New York Times, and Esquire.

According to , Latham had three screenwriting credits to his name. 

He wrote the 1993 sports drama, The Program, with David S. Ward.

The film starred Godfather alum, James Caan, as a football coach and then-newcomer Halle Berry as a student.  

Latham’s other screen credits are born from articles he penned that were optioned for movies.

Latham wrote a series of articles for Rolling Stone magazine that showcased the vibrant dating scene of Los Angeles fitness clubs.

The articles served as the inspiration for the 1985 film Perfect.

The lead character, played by John Travolta, was a Rolling Stone reporter named Adam Lawrence in what seems like a nod to Latham himself.

Latham’s first screenplay, which also starred Travolta as the lead, was the 1980 film Urban Cowboy, based on Latham’s story The Ballad of the Urban Cowboy. 

Beyond his work on newspaper and magazine articles, essays, and screenplays, Latham also wrote several books, including:

  • Orchids for Mother
  • Riding with John Wayne
  • Crazy Sundays: F. Scott Fitzgerald in Hollywood
  • The Cowboy With the Tiffany Gun
  • The Frozen Leopard

On July 23, 2022, at the age of 78, Latham died, partly due to complications from Parkinson's disease.

He was survived by his wife, daughter, and two grandchildren, according to his .
