But before he was one of the most dangerous and skilled fighters in Westeros, McCann was once the face of the famous Scott's brand of porridge.

And he even set pulses racing in a number of hunky adverts before starring in the hit HBO series.

McCann, now 52, would have been in his twenties when he donned his vest and kilt for the TV campaign in 1998.

And the Scottish star looks unrecognisable after swapping the clean shaven face, short hair and the vest for his more commonly known beard and longer hair.

He only had one acting role prior to starring in the Porridge adverts, where he starred as a extra on the 1988 film Willow.

But he started to have more success in the 2000's when he took on his first major role in a 2002 comedy TV drama called The Book Group.

He won the Scottish BAFTA for the best TV performance for his role as the disabled personal trainer.

Since then, fans would have seen him star in other TV roles such as Detective Inspector Stuart Brown in State of Play, Peter the Great in Peter in Paradise and even as a priest in the award-winning show Shameless.

In 2004, he made his Hollywood debut in the film Alexander which meant he travelled out to African desert and shot scenes in studios in London, Thailand and Morocco.

Other than Game of Thrones, fans will recognise him from Hot Fuzz when he played Michael "Lurch" Armstrong in 2007.

He also works alongside his sister, Sally-Gay McCann, on Game of Thrones as she works on costumes for the hit show.

Recently, we told how he was spotted enjoying a dinner at a Glasgow restaurant and posed alongside staff in restaurant in the city's West End.

The top actor was pictured inside La Lanterna Glasgow as he embodied the role of his popular character.

In the hilarious post shared by the restaurant, he grabbed waiter by the neck in a bid to hurry and 'have his tea.'

He was also spotted carrying the waiter with a mock angry face as the pair joked around while McCann acted out in his characters' style.
