My tumour was in a really awkward place but they managed to save my bottom, says brave Adele Roberts amid cancer battle
ADELE Roberts has opened up about her "shock" cancer diagnosis that meant doctors almost saw her "lose her bottom".
The Radio 1 DJ told Good Morning Britain hosts Kate Garraway and Ben Shephard about the life-changing surgery required to treat her bowel cancer.
Adele, 42, revealed she had been diagnosed with cancer in an emotional Instagram post last year, a month after discoverign the disease in her bowel.
Speaking for the first time about her cancer battle, the former I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of here contestant took to GMB alongside her girlfriend Kate.
She told close pal and presenter Kate, 54, and co-star Ben, 47, about her battle, explaining the vital surgery to remove the tumour.
"So far, I believe they've managed to remove the tumour," the DJ said. "It was in a really awkward place but they managed to save my bottom."
Adele joked that she had named her stoma - and opening made in her abdomen so she can pass faeces - "Audrey" to make it less threatening.
Showing off her shaven head, she continued: "Once I've finished my chemo, I should be well again."
She continued to the hosts: "[The diagnosis] was a shock. I didn't realise I could get cancer which I know sounds silly, I know now it can happen to anyone. "
"I'm vegetarian, I'm healthy, I exercise," Adele voiced her reasons behind her confusion that finding out her digestive issues were down to a tumour.
"I noticed when I went to the toilet things like mucus and then blood. I didn't know whether to call the doctor because of Covid I didn't want to bother anyone.
"I feel like I've not really taken it on board. I'm just trying to get through each day. The NHS have been awesome.
"I've been able to get back on Radio One and I'm on chemotherapy. Hopefully by the middle of this year I'll be back to my normal self."
Adele's girlfriend Kate Holderness sat by her throughout the interview, before gushing over how "brave" the star had been towards the end of the chat.
"She's been amazing. It's been just 16 weeks since that diagnosis. What she's been through - Surgery, a stoma, chemo - she's been amazing," she said.
Adele concluded her interview by urging others to go and "get checked" by doctors as she insisted that "not being shy" could save lives.
