THE TRUTH BEHIND HIDDLESPLIT

After three-month whirlwind romance, Taylor Swift and Tom Hiddleston split over bitter behind-the-scene rows about his ‘love of the limelight’

Actor is done with playing her 'cute' boyfriend and it looks like they may never ever get back together

IT was the love affair no one saw coming – but now Tom Hiddleston and Taylor Swift are finished.

After a three-month fairytale romance, first revealed by The Sun, the two unlikely lovebirds have gone their separate ways.

Taylor, 26, and 35-year-old Tom have swapped their schmaltzy public courtship for a behind-the-scenes fallout — with each side blaming the other.

Friends revealed that the superstar singer has tired of Tom, revealing she just wants to “shake him off”.

One confidante told The Sun: “It was fun while it lasted, but Taylor has now had enough.

“Tom’s a great guy but there’s no room for him in her life.

“She doesn’t want a serious relationship and that’s where it was heading.

“It was all far too public, in the end.

“Tom freaked her out with his love of the limelight.

“But once things have all died down they are likely to remain friends.”

The source added that Taylor was not interested in being part of a “power couple”.

The source said: “Being in a relationship which brings so much attention is not her thing.

“It’s all about her being an individual and a strong, independent woman.

“Taylor is so focused on her career it’s unreal.

“She is in control of her life, that’s a fact.

“She is the driving force in what she does and where she goes, and she certainly won’t let a boyfriend interfere with that.”

But pals of Brit actor hit back, saying it was SHE who loved the limelight and Tom simply played along to keep her happy.

One said: “Tom has supported Taylor in everything she does, going along with her antics like splashing around in the sea with all her pals.

“All he has ever wanted to do was make her happy — and she always seemed to be.”

A flashpoint is said to been Taylor’s refusal to attend the upcoming Emmy TV awards with him.

Tom is up for Best Actor, for his role as spy Jonathan Pine in BBC drama The Night Manager, at the ceremony at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on September 18.

All he ever wanted was to make her happy

Pals of his say he was “humiliated” by what he sees as a high profile snub.

One said: “He’s done his duty, so he thought it was only fair she repays the favour herself and is by Tom’s side at the Emmys.

“He’s humiliated that she’s so against it and won’t put her tradition of avoiding red carpet events with boyfriends to one side for him on his big night.”

Taylor’s reluctance to attend the Emmys only adds to the debate on whether she actually really likes Tom.

This is something the world has been feverishly discussing ever since we published our exclusive pictures of the pair fooling around on the rocks outside Taylor’s Rhode Island beach house in June.

Extraordinary scenes of public displays of affection followed, peaking with that picture of Tom splashing around in the sea wearing a tight white vest with “I Heart TS” emblazoned on the front and surrounded by her model pals.
That photo — which heaped ridicule on Tom — was the beginning of the end, say those who know the couple.

They were last pictured together in late July.

After an initial glut of pictures, which included both Taylor and Tom meeting their prospective in-laws, the blizzard of loved-up snaps dried up when he travelled to Australia to reprise his role as Loki in the film Thor: Ragnarok.

The physical distance between the pair has made things even more difficult, according to a pal.

Friends say Taylor, who had only recently split from superstar DJ Calvin Harris, 32, when she hooked up with Tom, began to realise he was more comfortable with the limelight than she originally thought, which got her worried.

A pal said: “That didn’t form part of Taylor’s life manual — an unwritten set of rules she puts on herself to ensure she remains true to herself and, most importantly, current.

“Her Life Manual was accepted by Tom in those early months, who was undoubtedly still giddy about being in a relationship with one of the world’s most desirable women.

“But Taylor is not like the women he has dated before, she’s headstrong and won’t be led astray.”

In fact some cynics believed the whole romance was simply a ploy by the pair to promote their respective careers.

What is certain is that Taylor has struggled to find her Mr Right, with her ex Calvin being her longest relationship at 15 months.

Previously she has dated One Direction’s Harry Styles, Twilight actor Taylor Lautner, Jake Gyllenhaal and musician John Mayer.

Her famous exes have provided material for a number of her hits, so adding a break-up track about emerging star Tom would certainly go down well with her fans.

But whether she genuinely liked him or not, it is not hard to see how getting together with Tom suited both parties.

She had the cool English boyfriend who was tipped to be the next James Bond, and he had the international pop star on his arm, increasing his profile and his chances of bagging the role.

Yet how useful Taylor’s star status has proved to be is debatable.

This week it emerged that 007 supremo Barbara Broccoli could well just recast Daniel Craig as James Bond after all.

Reports suggest she has offered Craig $150million (£111 million) to do two more movies.

Some have even suggested the timing of that offer — which emerged 24 hours before The Sun revealed the relationship was on the rocks — and Taylor’s split from Tom is no coincidence.

One said: “Tom has been desperate to get that role and some people assumed he was getting with Taylor just to boost his profile.

“He was a big noise in Britain but not so well known across the Pond.

“Now it could be he’s lost the job — and the girl.”
