Coronation Street fans hit back after ‘homophobes’ object to gay kiss scene
Several point out the soap was in fact created by a gay man
CORONATION Street fans have hit back at viewers who complained when two men on the soap shared a kiss.
In tonight's episode of the ITV soap, Billy and Todd check into a hotel together, where they engage in a passionate smooch.
Some fans reacted negatively to the steamy scene, with one, @rjdavies7, taking to Twitter to blast: "Homosexual scenes in #Corrie tonight were sickening. Most now tolerate this practice but we don't need it rammed down our throats."
Another, @djb0607, tweeted: "#corrie let's hope they finish during the adverts! No more gay action please!"
@David_Fraser wrote: "That gay sex scene in Corrie has knocked me sick #tooearly", while @yatesy79 said: "Not sure we need the full steamy gay scenes this early #Corrie."
And in a tweet that was later deleted, a user called @DoverMarie wrote: "@itvcorrie I thought it was Adam and Eve that created mankind not Adam and Steve!! #Corrie #toomuch."
Other fans came out in force to defend the programme.
@PowerWayne wrote: "If in 2016 you can't handle two actors stimulating a gay kiss on a soap opera. You really should get your priorities right."
@Hotdesigner remarked: "To think, Beth Jordache snogged a woman in Brookside 22 years ago... And people are STILL upset to see gay people kissing in 2016."
@ChrisKeone said: "Seeing two men kiss in a soap opera when I was 12 helped me realise it was ok to be gay. Get back in your boxes #Corrie homophobes."
Another wrote: "It's the people who complain abt gay representation on tv that contribute to such awful levels of self harm & suicide in LGBT youth."
