Sophie Ellis-Bextor reveals she had NEVER watched Strictly Come Dancing before taking part
The 37-year-old opened up as she released her latest album
SOPHIE Ellis-Bextor has revealed she had never watched Strictly Come Dancing before she took part in it.
The 37-year-old appeared on the show back in 2013 alongside professional dancer Brendan Cole and ended up in an very impressive fourth place.
Speaking exclusively to The Sun Online in a Facebook Live, ahead of her performance at HMV as she launched new album Familia, she said: “I always look forward to the new series but it’s funny because I had never watched any of the show before I did it.
“So it’s really only after having done it that I got into it. My favrouite bit is the beginning bit where there is all the different levels of talent and people are just having fun and seeing what they can do.”
Discussing who could win this year, she told us: “I know there are a couple of girls in there who can really boggie but sometimes it’s someone really unexpected.”

While Sophie, who is married to The Feeling’s Richard Jones, was happy to give Strictly a go she has said she would never do Celebrity Big Brother.
Responding to a fan’s question about taking part she said: “I would never do that programme. I love watching it but I think it would drive me crazy.”
And she also revealed that she is unlikely to have auditioned for something like The X Factor when she was starting out – even though she does believe some talent comes out of it.
The mum-of-four, who started her career in the band The Audience, admitted: “I don’t think I would have auditioned.
“I started off in band and I think it was really important for me to be in a band and I like a band mentality. I sort of became a solo singer by default so I’m not really used to standing on the stage by myself although I’ve got to do it sometimes – I much prefer being in the thick of it.”
But she certainly doesn’t dismiss the singing shows, adding: “I don’t think you can be snobby. I was lucky to grown up in a capital city where A and R men are going to gigs.
“That’s how I got my first record deal but not everyone is lucky enough to have that traffic aroudn the things they are doing so if a big show comes to town and it could give you the opportunity to show your talent- I think go for it.
“I definitely think some talent can come out it.”
Sophie’s sixth studio album Familia is out now.
