Who was Shane O'Connor?

Shane was the son of Sinead, an Irish singer-songwriter, and Donal Lunny, an Irish folk musician and producer.

Shane was one of Sinead's four children - Jake Reynolds, Roisin Waters, and Yeshua Francis Neil Bonadio.

He was last seen in Tallaght, South Dublin, on Friday, January 7, 2022, as police were alerted to his disappearance.

Police had previously launched an appeal for assistance finding Shane with Sinead tweeting: "Shane, your life is precious. God didn’t chisel that beautiful smile on your beautiful face for nothing.

"My world would collapse without you. You are my heart. Please don’t stop it from beating. Please don’t harm yourself. Go to the Gardai and let’s get you to hospital.

"This is a message for my son, Shane. Shane, it’s not funny anymore all this going missing. You are scaring the crap out of me.

"Could you please do the right thing and present yourself at a Gardai station. If you are with Shane please call the Gardai for his safety".

On January 6, 2022, a spokesperson for the police confirmed that a Missing Person Appeal for the teenager had been "stood down" following the discovery of a body.

How did he die?

Sinead and her family were reportedly concerned about Shane's mental health as he disappeared from Tallaght Hospital, where his mum claimed he had been on "suicide watch".

Sinead also threatened the hospital with a lawsuit after her son went missing.

She wrote: "Like, how has a seventeen-year-old traumatised young person WHO WAS ON SUICIDE WATCH in Tallaght Hosptial's Lynn Ward been able to go missing???

"Hospital of course so far refusing to take any responsibility. Anything happens to my son on their watch? Lawsuits.

"I want to know why Lynn Ward at Taillight hospital who were supposed to have HCA's supervise my child 24/7 have managed to let him out of their grasp this morning when 7 days ago he made two severe suicide attempts."

YOU'RE NOT ALONE

EVERY 90 minutes in the UK a life is lost to suicide.

It doesn't discriminate, touching the lives of people in every corner of society - from the homeless and unemployed to builders and doctors, reality stars and footballers.

It's the biggest killer of people under the age of 35, more deadly than cancer and car crashes.

And men are three times more likely to take their own life than women.

Yet it's rarely spoken of, a taboo that threatens to continue its deadly rampage unless we all stop and take notice, now.

That is why The Sun launched the You're Not Alone campaign.

The aim is that by sharing practical advice, raising awareness and breaking down the barriers people face when talking about their mental health, we can all do our bit to help save lives.

Let's all vow to ask for help when we need it, and listen out for others... You're Not Alone.
