Why the Beeb has made such a boob in covering up Daisy Lowe’s Strictly perfect body
THE Sun's Woman editor questions why the BBC have reportedly digitally edited Strictly Come Dancing promo shots to hide Daisy Lowe's curves
DAISY, Daisy, we’re all half crazy for you. Or I am, anyway.
Ms Lowe is the girl who every woman would love to have as a friend — and, I’m sure, every man wants as a girlfriend.
I can imagine a night out with the 27-year-old model would include what all girls love . . . eating lots of food — including pudding — laughing hysterically, gossiping and then dancing the night away in an incredible venue while hot men fall at our (her) feet.
And that is why I have admired Daisy Lowe — from a safe distance, I promise — for many years.
She’s a good-time girl who oozes old-fashioned sex appeal, fills her dresses full of curves and disposes of men more often than most of us change our toothbrush.
And if it’s true that the BBC digitally covered up Daisy’s boobs in her official pictures for Strictly Come Dancing — as The Sun revealed yesterday — it seems like sacrilege.
We need more women like Daisy — and more OF Daisy.
So many female celebs act like they would prefer a night in their onesie, daintily sipping a protein shake, over getting laid.
Whereas a night in with Daisy would be one to remember — and probably the next day too. The girl is clearly not afraid of daylight.
This was obvious even before those pictures of her and then boyfriend, former Doctor Who actor Matt Smith, were leaked by internet hackers.
The pair smiled gleefully as they posed butt naked with ropes and clingfilm.
Daisy is a bit dirty in bed, and good for her. Two consenting adults having fun and frolics in the bedroom is nothing to be embarrassed about.
Now you may think from reading this that I am clearly a crazed stalker or my obsession goes far beyond a simple girl crush.
Just to get one thing, umm, straight — I am a heterosexual woman.
But I’ve long admired and respected the genetically blessed Daisy, as she does what so many others don’t.
She loves her body, loves men, loves women and has used her incredible boobs to her advantage.
I’ve heard some people (fools) say they think she’s too curvy, but how is that possible? That’s like saying a cake is too delicious.
RELATED STORIES
Daisy says of her body: “If you stand me next to a normal model I look like an elephant, and that’s all right. I’ve always been a big eater.
“I’ve got the sweetest tooth ever. I love sugar. I get labelled as curvy but I’m sure women who are size 14 or 16 find that infuriating.
“I’m only curvy compared to normal model size. I’m not teeny-weeny. Women are our own worst enemies when it comes to how we look.
“It’s taken me ten years to say, ‘I’m actually comfortable in my shape and I’m proud of being a woman and my feminine form.”
And she’s not shy about showing it. In 2011, Daisy stripped for Playboy.
However, she was not a fan of all the snaps and when asked what she’d like to delete about herself on the web, she replied: “Probably my completely nude Playboy picture.
“I love so many of the images, but not the one of me underwater. My lady parts got an entire page to themselves, which I’d love to be deleted.”
Her mum — former wild child Pearl Lowe — refused to look at the photos, but her grandmother encouraged her and urged her to be proud of her body, saying: “Oh darling, if you’ve got it, flaunt it.
“You’ll be happy about it when you’re 60.”
She admits she had to fake her confidence for the revealing shots, telling a magazine: “I have done naked shoots, which means everyone thinks I’m a deviant, but I think the female form is something to be celebrated.
“The male form too, but I don’t have one of those.
“I have to become a character to have the confidence to take my clothes off. If I was Daisy, I’d be an awkward nightmare.”
This year she also stripped for an interview in LOVE magazine, in which she splashed in a bath while declaring that the only person she’d like to share dirty bath water with is actress Julianne Moore.
Londoner Daisy is also a part-time DJ and has her own rock ’n’ roll roots which only go to make her even more interesting.
She grew up thinking her mum’s former lover, Bronner Handwerger, was her biological father.
But a DNA test 12 years ago revealed that her real dad was Gavin Rossdale, singer with rock band Bush, who she had previously thought of as simply her godfather.
It’s like an ultra-cool episode of Jeremy Kyle’s show.
She says about it: “I was so happy the day I found out Gavin was my dad. I’d always looked up to him.
“But it was still a s**tshow trying to get over it. There’s no handbook. As a 15-year-old you have to pull yourself together anyway.”
When she first shot to fame in 2007, after featuring in Italian Vogue and posing in her favourite outfit (nude) for i-D magazine, she was dating skinny, red-haired Will Cameron, of the short-lived 2000s band Blondelle.
She then had a relationship with much-older producer Mark Ronson — 13 years her senior — then Matt Smith, followed by Peaches Geldof’s widower, Thomas Cohen, and, most recently — and most weirdly — Darius Danesh.
Some may question why she can’t keep a man. They can’t keep her, more like.
A light like Daisy can’t be overshadowed by a boy, and the moment they get dull, she gets rid.
During a dry spell of singledom, she admitted in an interview: “I’m a very sensual being, and very tactile, but I have been single for a long time so I’m not as sexual as I’d like to be.”
And after every break-up, one thing always remains with Daisy — her incredible smile.
You never get Daisy pulling a boring pout or serious sneer on the red carpet like other famous faces.
No matter what she is doing (walking her dog, going to the supermarket, breaking up with a boyfriend . . . ) the moment she sees a photographer, she smiles.
And everything looks better with a smile, even her incredible bod.
So I beg you, BBC, don’t cover up this rare delight — set her free to seduce the nation.
And Daisy: Keeeeeep flashing.
