Broadchurch teaser images appear to show fans’ favourite Mark Latimer attempt to take his own life
The loveable dad can be seen lying pale-faced and motionless in a lake
FANS of detective drama Broadchurch could be in for a shock after newly-released pictures seem to have given a glimpse into loveable Mark Latimer's attempt at suicide.
Teaser images from the third series show the caring dad lying face-up and motionless in the middle of a huge lake, fully clothed and with his arms outspread.
It comes after the character, played by Andrew Buchan, is spotted sailing on his bright yellow boat The Old Boiler before plunging into the murky waters.
Producers have promised a "provocative and though-provoking" series which will also see David Tennant and Olivia Colman resume their roles as DI Alec Hardy and DS Ellie miller.
Yet the future looks less clear for pale-faced Mark, the father of murdered schoolboy Danny, after the shots potentially show him trying to take his own life.
Andrew acted out scenes for the hit ITV drama in Clevedon, Someset, where the film crew took to the lake in the dead of night as the dramatic plot was played out.
The fate of plumber Mark - who had an affair with Becca Fisher after meeting on the night of his son's death - remains unclear.
Although he was one of the initial suspects into his son's murder he denied any involvement, instead pointing the finger at shopkeeper Jack Marshall.
Meanwhile, screen stars David and Olivia were spotted filming in Dorset.
Their new storyline will see the detectives investigate a serious sexual assault and deal with its consequences for the small rural community.
Other famous faces joining the cast include ex Casualty star Sunetra Starker as well as funnyman Lenny Henry - who previously mocked the show for lacking diversity in 2014.
Back then, he said: "The evolution of black and ethnic minority involvement in British drama seems to lurch one step forward and two steps back, a bit like John Sergeant in Strictly Come Dancing.
“Except he had a job at the end.
“In Broadchurch, at least the boyfriend of the deceased is mixed race, so there’s someone in there.”
Meanwhile Broadchurch's executive producer Chris Chibnall said earlier this year: "This is the final chapter of 'Broadchurch'.
"We have one last story to tell, featuring both familiar faces and new characters. I hope it's a compelling and emotional farewell to a world and show that means so much to me."
