'A TRUE ARTIST'

Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis heaps praise on funnyman James Corden before headlining Reading Festival

In their ONLY newspaper interview, Red Hot Chili Peppers frontman Anthony Kiedis talks about a change in career for funnyman Corden

JAMES CORDEN spent five years dishing out Brit Awards as host, and now an industry legend reckons he deserves a shot at getting one himself.

The self-confessed TAKE THAT fan and Late Late Show host has been backed to land a record deal by RED HOT CHILI PEPPERS frontman ANTHONY KIEDIS.

The rocker was so blown away by James’ singing talents during their Carpool Karaoke stint in June he is championing him to be an artist in his own right.

In an exclusive interview backstage at Reading Festival, Anthony said: “James has got the making of being a true artist.

“He started off as a musical artist before he became a comic, actor, talk show dude.

“He sings beautifully and the look on his face when music happens - he’s raptured with passion about melody and lyrics. He’s the real deal.

“I haven’t jammed with him. I don’t know what that would be like, but there’s something very special about him.”

Riding shotgun, Anthony belted out Chilis classics alongside James while bassist FLEA, pictured right, guitarist JOSH KLINGHOFFER and CHAD SMITH got animated in the backseat in one of the most memorable Carpool Karaokes ever, watched on YouTube more than 24 million times.

Their bromance was obvious then, but Anthony reveals he crushed on Corden long before their musical road trip.

He said: “I got turned onto him years before he ever came to America with Gavin & Stacey. I was a Gavin & Stacey guy. I watched it on the Internet.

“I like those characters in that show, and I like The Wrong Mans. Those two things I had seen and then he came to the US and had a lovely way of making people feel comfortable.”

There was hope on the horizon for the BBC comedy to comeback when James said in March he wanted to film one last episode after reprising his wise-cracking Essex lad character Neil Smith for Comic Relief.

But Anthony won’t be gunning for a cameo.

He added: “Acting is best left to actors - people who really studied that art form because there’s so much bad acting in the world. I don’t just want to throw my hat into that pile.”

If anyone’s in a position to help James venture into mainstream music it’s Anthony - now in his 33rd year as frontman of the Chilis.

After nine years away, the Californian rockers returned to headline Reading Festival on Saturday night in front of 60,000 adoring fans following the announcement of their UK Dark Necessities tour including two dates at London’s O2 on the 5 and 6 December.

Anthony said: “The band is in a good place - emotionally its ‘s good as it gets. Maybe we just figured it out, what hurts and what doesn’t, and learnt how to do this without burning out or getting to bent out of shape or too full of ourselves.

“It feels good to be back in the UK. London has been ridiculously beautiful for the last three days.

"I do think we have a fondness for this place. There’s a second home thing going on. We’ve been coming here since the early Eighties so we have an attachment.”

It’s even better to have them back.

Justin's Grande Plan

INDIE rockers THE VACCINES are hoping that recent boozy karaoke session down their local in which lead singer JUSTIN YOUNG blasted out a number of ARIANA GRANDE songs will be enough to bag them a duet with the American superstar on their next album.

Justin said: “I always choose Ariana Grande’s songs on karaoke. I go down the local karaoke nights loads so I am always belting them out.

“She is the most unbelievable singer too, so when I sing it’s a disaster with my voice.

“But I’m ambitious so I always give it a go.

“We would really love to sing with her at some point.”

Rocky gets biffed

KENDALL JENNER’s ears will have been burning.

The model was the target of the festival’s unlikeliest feud, between BIFFY CLYRO and A$AP ROCKY.

The Scottish rockers let rip at the rapper in an expletive-ridden rant on stage at Reading after he upset fans by pulling out of Leeds at the last minute on Friday.

Frontman SIMON NEIL blasted: “A$AP Rocky wasn’t here was he? Lazy f***er. Probably too busy f***ing a Kardashian. Us real people don’t matter to him.”

Kendall’s bloke A$AP, who has also dated RITA ORA, IGGY AZALEA and CHANEL IMAN, later claimed he had “travel issues” and would appear for his Reading leg last night.

Meanwhile, Biffy drummer BEN JOHNSTON told how the band had snubbed watching other artists to focus on themselves.

He said: “It’s such a big deal to headline such an iconic festival. I think if I watched another show I’d be taking my eyes off the prize of what I’m here to do, which is just to play a bloody good show.”

Snubbing A$AP’s act would have fitted perfectly with that agenda.

Frontman battles on

EAGLES OF DEATH METAL frontman JESSE HUGHES is receiving therapy following the Bataclan tragedy.

He “lost touch” with the person he was before the massacre that claimed 89 lives during their show in Paris last November.

A source close to the band said: “He is in therapy and has had intensive sessions – he is not himself and still needs healing. It haunts him every day.”

The band played their first UK dates since the attacks at Reading & Leeds in what was a victory over the forces of darkness.
