STEPHEN MULHERN was left in agony after being kicked in the face when a stunt went badly wrong on his new game show.
As ITV’s star host was recording his new Saturday night entertainment show Go For It, a contestant attempted to kick a rugby ball off his head — but missed and hit him square on the cheek instead.
Visiting Bizarre HQ for a Facebook Live and special stint as Biz Guest Editor, Stephen said: “We had this girl on — she’s a karate expert and she kicked 30 American footballs off 30 footballers’ heads.
“It really hurt. The whole right-hand side was all red, because she kicked so hard and fast.”
The six-part series puts Stephen, who has hosted spin-off show Britain’s Got More Talent for nine years, centre-stage on ITV’s prime channel in the coveted slot before The X Factor.
Viewers will also see a man smash watermelons over his head and a bloke who can identify sheep just by feeling their udders.
But despite landing his biggest gig yet, there’s still one telly job Stephen has his heart set on — a part in Coronation Street.
He has even asked his presenter pal and former Corrie star BRADLEY WALSH to land him a part and it seems a character could already be mapped out for him — Danny Baldwin’s son.
Stephen said: “I’d love to be on Coronation Street. I’ve spoken to Bradley about it.
“So many people think Bradley is my dad, by the way.
“I’ve had so many people come up to me in the street saying it.
“I shouldn’t have really mentioned it — he hates it.
“I asked him what it was like to be in it. It’s quite nice to see a fellow performer and presenter who can do both. You can ask me anything about Coronation Street — I just love it.”
And it turns out that Bradley is not the only Corrie star who Stephen has been tapping up.
He added: “I also had a conversation with ANTONY COTTON (Sean Tully) about it. He did warn me that being in a soap consumes your life, but I’m just talking about one episode.
“That’s all I need to do. Just let me go into The Kabin and buy something, then I’ll be happy.
“Can you help me? Do a campaign? ‘Get Mulhern On The Cobbles’.
“Bradley didn’t do a Northern accent, nor KEITH DUFFY from BOYZONE. I’ll be grand.”
I’m on it…
Strictly disc-no
IF STEPHEN wants a TV kiss of death, he’ll hit up Strictly.
He thinks terrible dad dancing would be sure to kill off his career – and hopes LAURA WHITMORE and LOUISE REDKNAPP have the talent to avoid any such embarrassment.
He said: “I do think you need to be on a level. Laura – I don’t know if she can dance, but if she can’t it’s going to be very embarrassing. It’s like that bad dad-dance at the disco. That’s what they’ll be remembered for.
“I’d never do it.”
I don’t think the girls will have to worry too much.
The X Factor guest judge wore a feather duster for a sleeve while on America’s Got Talent duties on Tuesday.
STEPHEN said: “Well that’s just bizarre. It doesn’t just look like she’s just got a feather duster, it looks like she’s got a tail.
“I think she’s brilliant, though. I think she’s one of the best judges. She’s to the point, she doesn’t mess about, she just says it how it is.”
Although Mel is known for her brushes with high fashion, this looks like she’s taken a bit of a wrong turn on her way to KIM AND AGGIE’s.
Ed’s wahey team
THIS is the photo that has sparked rumours of a split between ED SHEERAN and Cherry Seaborn.
The singer looked in his element sandwiched between four stunners while partying in Ibiza without his long-term girlfriend. But my sources reveal the couple are as solid as ever.
On the female attention Ed receives, Stephen said: “Having worked with Ed a few times I know for a fact it’s his personality, talent and looks that attract the girls. He has the full package.”
Hopefully Cherry isn’t the jealous type.
Joey gets his GCSEs
STEPHEN put me through two of my very own Go For It challenges to test my skillset – showbiz and Nandos.
See how I ended up £40 out of pocket on my Facebook page.
And he wasn’t the only star at my studios.
JOEY ESSEX recently went back to school for his new show Re-Educating Joey Essex in a bid to gain qualifications.
But before he picks up his GSCE results today, I tested what he had learned with some questions live on Facebook.
Joey also tested his drama skills and art knowledge by performing Hamlet’s To Be Or Not To Be speech and trying to identify classic paintings.
Unsurprisingly, Joey wasn’t too familiar with Shakespeare or Botticelli.
