Who is Michael Georgiou? Meet the new 2016 Great British Bake Off contestant
Michael is the youngest contestant to set foot in the tent this year
STUDENT Michael Georgiou is this year's youngest Great British Bake Off contestant.
He is currently studying Politics and Economics at Durham university where he lives with his four housemates.
With Cypriot heritage, Michael likes to bake greek pastries - having baked them with his nan since he was a child.
He admits baking is not easy in a house full of students, he says the kitchen is often busy so many of his creations come to life at night.
Like fellow contestant Benjamina, Michael has already set up his own website -, where he shares recipe ideas and baking stories with his followers.
It is clear from the baker's Twitter feed that he is also an avid football fan, frequently taking to the site to Tweet about Arsenal.
Michael favours baking fresh loaves, pastries and even homemade pizzas - which he describes as tastier than any takeaway.
However, despite this wonderful loaf - the student fell at the Bread Week hurdle.
Michael was eliminated by Paul and Mary, on leaving the tent he said, "I usually like making bread and I prefer that over cakes, it’s my passion and that is why I was more upset at leaving in Bread week than any other week."
The new series of The Great British Bake Off continues Wednesday at 8pm on BBC One.
