Who is Kate Barmby? Meet the 2016 Great British Bake Off contestant
NORFOLK based nurse Kate Barmby was one of the twelve amateur bakers fighting for the 2016 Great British Bake Off winning title.
But sadly she became the fourth contestant to leave the tent when she was booted out on Batter Week.
Kate, who works on an acute respiratory ward, says she finds the job very rewarding and thrives on nurturing others.
The farmer's daughter enjoys baking with seasonal fruits and produce gathered from her parent's farm.
Regularly baking through day and night, Kate thrives herself upon her flawless sugar craft creations which are sampled by her daughters and husband Dave.
Whilst preparing for her time in the show, Kate says her daughters donned the role of presenting duo Mel and Sue, seriously tasting and critiquing every recipe.
She says her friends became suspicious as she gave away multiple cakes, breads and bakes, so her husband was promoted to the role of number one taste tester.
Unlike fellow contestants Benji and Jane, Kate is yet to set up an Instagram page to show off her kitchen creations.
The Nurse says her love of baking started when she was still in her highchair, she would watch cookery programmes, read cookbooks and was taught by her mother to bake.
Kate says "My grandmother was also an enthusiastic cook but she refused to use scales and everything she baked had to include either a tin of soup or cornflakes
"What she lacked in skill she made up for in enthusiasm."
The new series of The Great British Bake Off started on Wednesday 24th August and airs at 8pm on BBC One.
