Who is Tom Gillford? Meet the new 2016 Great British Bake Off contestant

Despite being a baker, Tom has made a whopping five stone weight loss

OXFORD graduate and Royal Society of Arts worker Tom Gillford is one of the amateur bakers starring in this year's Great British Bake Off - but what do we know about him?

Before appearing as a contestant, Tom was previously a teacher but he quit his role after he became disillusioned with the role.

In the past, Tom, 26, hasn't been afraid to express his opinions about politicians either, having branded David Cameron as an "idiot" and Michael Gove as a "school dunce.

He lives in East London with wife Kate, and says that they like to make an event out of every meal time.

Fans of the show can follow Tom over on Twitter, where he regularly tweets baking updates and pictures - including these muffins made with the help of fellow contestant Michael.

Tom made quite the impression in week three's bread week, where he made a phallic shaped loaf.
