Kate, 54, joined Wayne and Frankie Bridge at the Elvetham Hotel in Hampshire on Monday for the start of the three-day experience.

The hotel and its grounds had been transformed into an Enchanted Manor for the event, which saw 150 families come together.

Kate was on hand to spend time with the families and their children on the first 24 hours of fun.

"It was lovely meeting the families and it's lovely seeing what they've created," the TV host told the MailOnline.

"[During lockdown] doing the simplest things became too complicated for them. For them to be here with somebody else having taken care of everything, it means they can relax."

Loose Women star Frankie, 32, and hubby Wayne, 41, echoed Kate's sentiment, adding that the day saw them reduced to "emotional tears".

"The last two years have been tough for so many people. It's brilliant to see the Make-a-Wish children finally able to experience the magic," they added.

Kate's latest charitable adventure comes days after she paid a heartfelt tribute to "breath taking" nurses at The Sun's Who Cares Wins Awards.

The Good Morning Britain presenter gave at update on her husband Derek Draper's health as she paid the sincere tribute to NHS staff.

At the star-studded awards ceremony, which was shown on Channel 4 on Sunday night, Kate, 54, took the opportunity to thank nurses across the UK.

Hostess Davina McCall welcomed the telly presenter to the stage, saying: "We now turn out attention to nurses to present the award for Best Nurse.

"I am so happy to welcome one of this country's most loved presenters who, after her husband contracted Covid, experienced first-hand the care and unbelievable work our NHS does."

As Kate walked out onto the stage, Davina enquired over Derek, asking: "Kate, I would love to ask on behalf of all of us how is Derek doing?"

Kate happily replied: "He’s had a good day today we did some exercises together before I came out, day at a time but today’s a good day.

The GMB star went on to introduce the Best Nurse award, telling audiences she was stunned by the "utterly breathtaking" work done by nurses.

"I’m here to talk about nurses, I mean, where do you begin there is absolutely no doubt that everything nurses do every day is utterly breathtaking," Kate gushed.

DEREK'S EMOTIONAL NTA WIN

Kate and her husband Derek recently won an award at the National Television Awards for their documentary Finding Derek.

She Facetimed her husband, who is still seriously ill following his battle with coronavirus last year, immediately after the result was read.

Kate said: "He reacted and his eyes filled with tears, and I know that he knows. And it's tribute to him that he wanted to go ahead with the documentary for everyone else."

The broadcaster also updated viewers on Derek's condition and said that while he still can't communicate, he does understand what is going on.

She said: "We are very clear now that he understands everything really.

"He can't respond as he wants to and he can't communicate still, and that must be a desperate battle for him as it is for so many people who can't get out their thoughts into the world."
