LUCY Spraggan has revealed that her mental health at one point was so bad that she considered committing suicide.

Her new single, Dear You, tells the story of two friends battling their own mental health issues - with one not realising the other is suffering.

Lucy, 25, hopes that the release will bring around a conversation to help end the stigma related to mental health and blames online trolls for making her own depression worse.

She told the : "I read comments when you talk about mental health, and there'll always be those trolls who are like 'oh, sob story', and I'm like, 'No, I wanted to kill myself, it's not fun and games'."

The song's music video features Thomas Turgoose, famed for playing This Is England's Shaun Field - and tragically ends with one of the main characters committing suicide.

On her decision to kill the character off, she explained: "It was kind of just honest. I knew in the end of the song they could end up meeting and having a great time, but that's not the reality of depression.

"The reality of it is if you don't reach out or seek help, it's fatal."

The video on her YouTube page comes with the message: "This song is about the impact mental health can have on us; whether you are the person suffering or you are a friend or family of someone who isn't well.

"I think the most vital thing to remember is that if you are in either of those situations or something similar, it's time to reach out."
