OneRepublic’s new single ‘Kids’ set to storm the charts ahead of album release in Autumn
Dan Wootton has an exclusive listen to the band's new single
MUSIC fans often claim that ONEREPUBLIC frontman RYAN TEDDER saves his best songs for other artists, like BEYONCE’s Halo and LEONA LEWIS’ Bleeding Love.
But having had the exclusive first listen to the band’s new song Kids, I can officially throw that theory out of the window.
Kids, which comes out on Friday, is a stomping summer smash about the beauty of youth.
While the track builds up slowly with an acoustic guitar intro, it soon kicks in with pounding drums and a typically catchy chorus.
Ryan's signature vocals and falsetto are as present as ever.
The message about keeping childhood friendships alive is lovely, too.
Lyrics include: “Back when we were kids, I swore we would never die. You and me were kids. Swear that will never die.”
Reminiscing about the past and looking ahead at the same time, Ryan sings in the chorus: "I refuse to look back thinking days were better just because they’re younger days.
"I don’t know what’s round the corner, the way I feel right now I swear will never change."
Kids is the second taste of One Republic's fourth album after the release of single Wherever I Go earlier this year.
Ryan, who has also been working with ED SHEERAN on his new record, has already teased collaborations with PHARRELL WILLIAMS and ROMY from the XX.
He has even gone as far to describe it as "the most exciting thing we've ever done".
There is one thing for sure right now - Ryan Tedder is undoubtedly the best songwriter of his generation.
