Viewers confuse new character with Todd Carty's beloved market trader who died after a battle with AIDS
EASTENDERS fans were sent into a spin last night after they confused Grant Mitchell's secret son with deceased market trader Mark Fowler.
Baffled viewers believed he had come back from the dead when Phil Mitchell went looking for the love child Grant fathered with Mark's sister Michelle - Mark Fowler, Jr.
In last night's episode, Phil made a phone call to get in touch with Grant's secret son, and fans were left confused when he asked to speak to Mark Fowler.
Many took to Twitter to express their confusion as Mark Fowler, played by Todd Carty, was written out of the show in 2003 when he died following a battle with AIDS.
Mark Fowler became a trending topic on the social networking website as fans debated whether Mark had come back from the dead.
One viewer wrote: What?!?!?! Mark fowler is alive?!?! I thought he died of aids whilst on a motorbike? How is he alive? #eastenders..."
Another added: "@bbceastenders I'm confused is Mark Fowler alive? could this be another dirty den episode ???? I hate waiting..."
One viewer even compared the soap to an episode of time travelling sci-fi show Doctor Who, writing: "This is as confusing as an episode of Doctor Who. Mark Fowler!?"
Many were convinced EastEnders bosses were about to bring Todd Carty back to the Square.
