Viewers shocked as Susan Boyle makes surprise appearance at Tokyo 2020 Olympic opening ceremony
THE Tokyo 2020 Olympics have officially started, with the opening ceremony officially kicking things off last night.
The event had some spectacular sights – including 1,800 drones flying in the formation of planet earth.
But perhaps the biggest surprise hit of the night was hearing Susan Boyle’s voice.
SuBo’s version of The Doves’ Wings to Fly was belted out to the billions watching, and listening, across the globe.
The 60-year-old Scottish singer played a significant role in the ceremony, much to the shock of those tuned in.
Thousands of paper doves descended from the sky as the ballad was being played in the background.
BBC commentators noted that the song was being played.
SuBo had a hit with the song on her 2009 debut studio album I Dreamed a Dream.
Several viewers took to social media to express their shock at the shoutout to Susan made by the commentators.
One person tweeted: “Susan Boyle and the Tokyo Olympics are not a pair I would have put together but there we go.”
Subo recently turned 60, and had a quiet birthday because of Covid-19 restrictions.
She has resolutely stuck to lockdown guidelines as she is high risk due to suffering from Type 2 diabetes.
The singer, from Blackburn, West Lothian, has enjoyed 12 years of fame after her iconic Britain’s Got Talent audition made her an overnight star.
Her spine-tingling version of I Dreamed A Dream has been watched over 680million times on YouTube.
