However the chances of Gary joining the BBC One dancing show are slim, as the series has only ever featured one other reality show star, former TOWIE heartthrob Mark Wright.

The 29-year-old took part in the twelfth series back in 2014, finishing in fourth place, but was only chosen for the programme after building a TV and radio career away from the ITVBe show which first made him famous.

While Gary remains on Geordie Shore - which according to him will be for another 18 months at least - he is unlikely to waltz his way onto the dance floor.

Meanwhile, the line-up for this year's series is yet to be revealed, but reports suggest former Pop Idol winner Will Young and Irish presenter Laura Whitmore will be donning their best sequin ensembles.

It was also claimed last week that former Labour shadow chancellor Ed Balls will be taking part, making him the first male politician to ever appear on the main version of the show.

Ed would follow in the quick footed steps of Liberal Democrat Sir Vince Cable, who participated in the 2010 Christmas Special.
