His character is currently embroiled in a storyline which has seen his jealous ex-lover Chrissie White frame him for shooting her father, Lawrence.

It was in fact her son, Lachlan, but she had earlier spied a snap of him snogging former flame Bernice in a window which made her fly into a jealous rage.

Kelvin Fletcher, 32, dismissed the rumours on Twitter, saying: “Leaving Emmerdale to become a rally driver? First I’ve heard!”

But he teased: “I do know one thing; there’s some BIG surprises coming #Emmerdale”.

Some Twitter users hoped that this might mean the actor might not be leaving, but Kelvin is still set to leave the soap in a “big, dramatic exit”, a telly source told The Sun.

They added: “Show chiefs aren’t necessarily saying it’s for good and they are leaving the door open. But for now this is the last people will see of Andy for the foreseeable future.”

Kelvin also recently remarked on his departure, saying: “I do have aspirations to do other things. When you play one character for 20 years, regardless of the storylines they throw at you, there comes a time when you want to try something else.

“My drive and hunger for acting has never subsided, but hopefully I’ve got a few strings to my bow.”
