Kesha drops lawsuit against Dr Luke in California after ‘submitting 28 new songs’
The singer will continue to take legal action in New York
POP star Kesha has dropped her lawsuit against producer Dr Luke in California, but will continue to pursue her claims in New York.
The 29-year-old has been fighting to be released from her recording contract after claiming she was sexually assaulted by the producer, something he strongly denies.
After taking the dispute to a New York court in April, Kesha’s request to leave Luke’s Kemosabe Records, owned by Sony Music, was refused – with her lawyer now saying they are dropping the allegations in Los Angeles to focus her legal efforts in New York.
Kesha's lawyer also revealed she has submitted 28 new songs to Luke's label and has a "strong desire to release her next album and single as soon as possible".
Luke has sued Kesha for defamation, and that case is still ongoing.
In an emotional online post on Tuesday, Kesha wrote: “My fight continues. I need to get my music out. I have so much to say. This lawsuit is so heavy on my once free spirit, and I can only pray to one day feel that happiness again.
“I am continuing to fight for my rights in New York. Thank you for all your support. The support of my fans has been so beautiful and I'm so grateful for it. I'm Not sure where I would be without you all.”
Dr Luke, 42, whose real name is Lukasz Gottwald, has denied Kesha's allegations that date back to 2005, not long after she signed with him.
He claims she made up that story in an attempt to ruin his reputation to try to get out of her recording contract.
